Mengetikkan karakter bahasa asing di macbook

Artikel ini saya buat berdasarkan pengalaman pribadi saya ketika menggunakan macbook dan kebetulan saya sedang iseng belajar bahasa asing (Rusia). Saya tertarik belajar bahasa Rusia karena ada karakter karakter aneh yang membuat saya penasaran.

Permasalahan muncul ketika saya mencoba mengetik teks dalam bahasa Rusia. Karena saya beli macbooknya di Indonesia maka saya dapatnya macbook dengan keyboard layout QWERTY yang tentu saja tidak tersedia karakter-karakter spesifik Rusia seperti : й, ц, д, ш, я, э dll.

Setelah otak-atik System Preferences, akhirnya ketemu juga caranya. Berikut langkah-langkah yang saya lakukan untuk bisa mengetikkan karakter-karakter bahasa asing di macbook. Ini berlaku tidak hanya untuk bahasa Rusia, tapi juga untuk bahasa-bahasa asing lainnya seperti Jepang, Mandarin, Perancis dll. Untungnya Mac support cukup banyak bahasa-bahasa di dunia.

Langkah 1:

Buka System Preferences, terus pilih Language & Text kemudian klik Input Sources. Kemudian anda bisa aktifkan (dengan cara mencentang) bahasa-bahasa asing yang anda perlukan.

Langkah 2:

Jangan lupa aktifkan 'Show Input menu in menu bar' agar nantinya anda lebih mudah mengakses serta gonta-ganti antar keyboard layout. Setelah ini anda aktifkan maka di menubar macbook akan muncul icon bendera yang menunjukan layout keyboard yang saat ini sedang aktif.

Langkah 3:

Ketika pertama kali belajar bahasa asing, tentunya anda belum begitu hafal posisi dari karakter-karakter tersebut di keyboard. Untuk itu anda perlu mengaktifkan Keyboard Viewer sehingga anda bisa melihat preview dari layout keyboard yang sedang aktif. Klik icon bendera di menubar, trus klik 'Show Keyboard Viewer'.

Setelah Keyboard viewer anda aktifkan maka di layar akan muncul layout keyboard dari bahasa yang sedang aktif. Bagusnya preview ini 'Always on Top' jadi preview akan terus tampil di layar walaupun anda sedang mengetik di aplikasi lain sehingga akan sangat membantu sekali dalam pengetikan.
